Dalton City Council Approves $130M Bond for Natural Gas Power Plant
Dalton, GA's city council has authorized a $130 million revenue bond for Dalton Utilities to construct a natural gas power plant. The 56.8 megawatt facility aims to enhance the city's energy supply and is projected to save Dalton Utilities up to $1 million annually over the bond's 10-year term.

Dalton Utilities will utilize the approved $130 million revenue bond to build a new 56.8 megawatt natural gas electricity generation plant. This decision, made by the Dalton Mayor and Council, was passed 3-0 and aims to meet the city's long-term energy requirements independent of data center developments.
CEO John Thomas indicated potential annual savings of $1 million and estimated that after the bond period, monthly savings could total millions, reaching nearly $200 million over the following 20 years. The bond will now proceed for approval by Whitfield County Superior Court. The council meeting was rescheduled to March 30 from April 6 for staff convenience.
