Dangote Group's $2 Billion Fertilizer Plant to Commence Production in 2024
The Dangote Group's fertilizer facility in Lagos, Nigeria, is set to begin production in early 2024, with a capacity of 3 million tons annually. This project is significant as it represents the largest fertilizer plant globally, enhancing Nigeria's position in agricultural production.

The Dangote Group is constructing a $2 billion fertilizer plant in Lagos, Nigeria, with production expected to start in February 2024. The facility will have a nameplate capacity of 3 million tons per year of urea and ammonia, making it the largest of its kind worldwide.
Test runs began in March despite disruptions from the pandemic. Saipem SpA, the contractor, is currently in the commissioning stage of the first production train, with the second scheduled for commissioning in six to seven months.
Saipem, which has over 50 years of experience in Nigeria, is also involved in various projects, including a 430-megawatt power plant for Eni SpA and engineering work for Qatar's LNG expansion. Delays in project timelines may impact the industry landscape in 2021.
