Danville City Council to Discuss Energy Agreements Amid Industrial Growth
The Danville City Council will address three energy-related items at its Tuesday meeting, prompted by significant industrial development announcements. Proposed agreements include a 15-year purchase of 10 megawatts of natural gas from Potomac Energy Center and a 25-year purchase of 5 megawatts of solar energy from Avangrid Bright Mountain Solar. These agreements aim to stabilize energy supply and reduce market exposure costs. Additionally, a budget amendment for a natural gas pipeline extension to the Southern Virginia Megasite will be considered, with potential investment exceeding $73 billion and job creation of 2,050.

The Danville City Council will consider three energy-related resolutions at its Tuesday meeting due to recent industrial growth. The council plans to enter a 15-year purchase agreement for 10 megawatts of natural gas from the Potomac Energy Center, beginning in June.
Additionally, a 25-year agreement for 5 megawatts of solar energy from Avangrid Bright Mountain Solar is on the agenda, starting in January 2028. These agreements aim to mitigate exposure to fluctuating hourly market rates. The council will also review a budget amendment for a $459,000 grant and $2 million loan to extend a natural gas pipeline to the Southern Virginia Megasite, which could bring substantial investment and job creation to the region.
