Davao City Council Discovers 5,000 Unregistered Tricycles, Urges Compliance with Permits
The Davao City Council revealed the operation of 5,000 unregistered tricycles, prompting a call for drivers to renew or apply for Motorized Tricycle Operator's Permits (MTOPs). Only 991 operators possess valid MTOPs as of December 2025, with 1,062 units registered. The Council is tightening regulations amid 39 cases involving local officials and has proposed an ordinance for a centralized data center to improve information management.

The Davao City Council identified 5,000 unregistered tricycles operating in the city, urging operators to obtain Motorized Tricycle Operator's Permits (MTOPs). As of December 2025, only 991 operators are compliant, and only 1,062 units are registered.
The council announced potential sanctions for non-compliance. Additionally, 39 cases against barangay and youth officials are under review, leading to stricter rules. A proposed ordinance to establish a centralized data center aims to enhance digital information management for city offices, addressing inefficiencies and security risks in current systems.
