Davao Oriental River Discoloration Sparks Mining Investigation
The Banaybanay local government has requested an investigation into the cause of river discoloration, suspected to be linked to mining activities. This assessment by the Mines and Geosciences Bureau is critical for environmental safety and community welfare.

The local government of Banaybanay in Davao Oriental has engaged the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) for an assessment of river discoloration attributed to suspected mining operations by ARC Nickel Resources, Inc. Following heavy rains, residents reported orange-colored water in Barangays Causwagan and Maputi.
Mayor Lemuel Ian Larcia emphasized the need for an inspection to ascertain the impact of mining on environmental conditions. The MGB has deployed a technical team for this purpose. A monitoring team has also been established to address potential soil disturbance and sediment discharge. Previous mining operations faced suspensions due to similar issues; however, they resumed after addressing these environmental concerns.
