David Vitale has fully reacquired Starward Whisky, returning the Melbourne brand to founder-led ownership after 10 years. This buy-back concludes Diageo's involvement, which began with its investment through Distill Ventures in 2015.

The acquisition process, initiated by the board in mid-2025, allowed Vitale to secure 100% ownership. Vitale noted that Diageo had been supportive during the transition, although it has exited entirely with no further commercial or advisory ties.

This change is expected to enhance Starward's agility and focus on long-term brand development. Vitale aims to evolve the brand sustainably while capitalizing on the momentum gained over the past decade, which included winning eight platinum awards at the 2022 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
