DE-CIX Advocates for Uniform Data Center Taxation in Europe
DE-CIX's CEO calls for standardized taxes on data centers based on capacity to reduce regional disparities in Europe. This approach aims to enhance infrastructure efficiency and user experience, particularly during major events like the World Cup.

DE-CIX proposes that European countries adopt uniform taxation for data centers, based on energy and storage capacity. The CEO, Ivo Ivanov, highlights the need for such standardization to address disparities across regions, particularly as Southern Europe develops its digital infrastructure.
Despite improvements in high-speed fiber connectivity in Portugal, a DE-CIX study reveals ongoing latency issues affecting users, with 22% experiencing delays weekly. Ivanov emphasizes the importance of direct routing for real-time experiences during events like the World Cup, noting that indirect paths can lead to significant delays. He advocates for more latency audits to ensure reliability in internet services, which is crucial for maintaining reputation and trust among users and clients.
