Denton City Council Approves Qumulus AI Data Center for AI and Crypto Services

DATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTURE

Qumulus AI received approval from the Denton City Council for a permit to construct a modular data center near Western Boulevard and Jim Christal Road. The facility will cater to cryptocurrency miners and AI development.

The data center will be located on city-leased land near the RD Wells substation for approximately $20,000 annually over 10 years. It will employ a closed-loop cooling system utilizing non-conductive fluid, requiring no water.

Denton Municipal Electric had previously issued a request for proposals for a data center near the substation in 2022. The Denton area is emerging as a key hub for AI infrastructure, highlighted by Core Scientific and CoreWeave's $1.2 billion expansion announced in February 2025.
