Development of Digital Twins and Product Passes for Resource Recycling in Wind Turbines and Electronics
Research at the Circular Economy Laboratory is focused on creating digital twins and product passes for effective resource reuse in wind turbines and circuit boards. This initiative aims to improve resource efficiency and establish recycling processes for critical materials like neodymium, nickel, and copper.

The Circular Economy Laboratory is developing digital twins and product passes for wind turbines and circuit boards to enhance the reuse of critical materials. Despite the presence of numerous wind turbines in Germany, established recycling processes are lacking.
The digital twins will provide insights into product components and their relationships, while digital product passes will virtually document the entire product lifecycle. Researchers face challenges in obtaining accurate data for this initiative, which is essential for enabling urban mining. Future studies will explore user incentives for returning outdated products, focusing on those containing critical materials, with digital systems playing a key role in the research.
