Dewatering Begins at Lohari Nagpal Hydropower Project Tunnels in Uttarkashi
Dewatering has commenced at the Lohari Nagpal hydropower project tunnels in Uttarkashi, which have been stalled since 2010. The sealing process aims to remove accumulated water and ensure structural safety before permanently sealing the tunnels at an estimated cost of ₹22 crore.

Dewatering work has begun at the six tunnels of the Lohari Nagpal hydropower project in Uttarkashi, which has been stalled since 2010. The project, initiated in 2006 and 70% completed, was halted due to environmental protests, leading to its eventual scrapping.
The dewatering process involves removing accumulated water in phases, with detailed inspections planned for structural stability. Loose sections will be treated before permanently sealing the tunnels, costing approximately ₹22 crore. Accumulated water and lack of maintenance have increased the risk of damage to surrounding structures.
