Diehl Aviation Advances Sustainable Aircraft Technologies with Greywater Recycling and Accessibility Solutions
Diehl Aviation's Grey Water Reuse System (GWRS) has demonstrated a potential reduction of CO2 emissions by up to 90 tonnes. The collaboration with SWISS and Boeing exemplifies a shift towards sustainable practices in the aviation industry, making strides in both water conservation and accessibility in cabin design.

Diehl Aviation's Grey Water Reuse System (GWRS) has successfully completed a three-month evaluation aboard Boeing 777 aircraft operated by SWISS, demonstrating reliability in real-world conditions. This system captures grey water from hand-wash basins, treating it for reuse in toilet flushing, enabling a 25% reduction in potable water use per flight, equating to 250 litres saved.
The system can lead to yearly weight reductions of 220 kg per aircraft, translating to fuel savings of approximately 28 tonnes annually and a significant CO2 reduction. Furthermore, Diehl Aviation has received recognition for its Adaptive User Routing System (AURS), designed to enhance accessibility in lavatory designs. This initiative reflects a broader industry trend towards collaborative innovation for operational efficiency and sustainability.
