Digital Realty Seeks Expansion of Dulles Data Center Campus in Virginia
Digital Realty has applied to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for an expansion of its Dulles Digital campus in Loudoun County, Virginia, which includes plans for two new data center buildings and upgraded infrastructure. The development, initially set at 7.5 million square feet, has grown to 11.7 million square feet, positioning it as the world's largest multi-tenant data center campus with a projected capacity of up to 1GW. Digital Realty acquired the site in 2018 and has been developing it since 2020, with the first building completed in 2023.

Digital Realty has submitted an application to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to expand its Dulles Digital campus in Loudoun County, Virginia. The plan includes constructing two additional data center buildings, relocating and expanding two substations, and updating stormwater management facilities.
The campus, located in Sterling, Virginia, is projected to include a total of 14 buildings and up to 1GW of capacity via six substations. Initially planned for 7.5 million sq ft, the development has increased to 11.7 million sq ft, positioning it as the world’s largest multi-tenant data center campus.
Digital acquired the site in 2018 for $236.5 million from the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority and began plans for development in 2020, with the first building completed in 2023. Four buildings are being developed in partnership with Blackstone.
