DRC and Zambia Enhance Global Copper Supply Role Amid Geomapping Initiatives in Africa
The Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia are crucial to the global copper supply chain, with significant reserves and production goals. Concurrently, several African nations are launching national geomapping efforts to expand mineral exploration and optimize resources.

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Zambia are consolidating their positions in the global copper supply chain, with the DRC holding the largest copper reserves in Africa and aiming for increased production. DRC's strategic partnerships, such as with Gécamines and Kamoto Copper Company, enhance its industrial influence.
Zambia targets over one million tonnes of copper output by 2026 and three million tonnes by 2031, with investments in projects like KoBold Metals' Mingomba development. Concurrently, nations like Ghana and Liberia are initiating national geomapping programs to expand mineral production and attract investment.
These geomapping initiatives are crucial as they reveal Africa's untapped mineral potential, estimated at $8.5 trillion, and aim to support the continent's role in the global mineral supply chain. AMW 2026 will emphasize these efforts, connecting local stakeholders with international investors.
