DTE Energy Secures $1.6 Billion Loan for Gas Infrastructure Enhancement
The U.S. Department of Energy has finalized a $1.6 billion loan to DTE Energy for upgrading its natural gas infrastructure in Michigan. This project is projected to yield over $700 million in customer savings and increase energy reliability.

DTE Energy will utilize a $1.6 billion loan from the Department of Energy to modernize 800 miles of natural gas pipelines and rebuild a compressor station in Michigan. The project aims to enhance reliability and reduce costs for approximately 1.3 million customers, resulting in over $700 million in savings.
The loan, issued through the Office of Energy Dominance Financing, aligns with federal efforts to bolster domestic energy supplies. DTE is concurrently pursuing a $236.5 million rate increase, with a decision from the Michigan Public Service Commission expected by October. This investment is essential for maintaining energy affordability and reliability as demand fluctuates.
