Dublin Airport Considers Business Jet Suspension Due to Passenger Cap Constraints
Dublin Airport's operator, the DAA, evaluated suspending business jet travel as it neared its 32 million annual passenger cap. Records indicate that cutting access to business aviation was cautioned against, as it could negatively affect foreign direct investment in Ireland.
Business aviation groups emphasized the importance of these flights for senior executives of FDI companies. The DAA explored options to avoid curtailing business aviation, including treating its VIP Platinum Service separately from Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 in passenger cap calculations.
CEO Kenny Jacobs noted that any allocation of additional passenger numbers would require action from the Irish Aviation Authority. The DAA is seeking to increase the cap to 40 million passengers per year, amid ongoing government efforts to remove the cap entirely, which currently supports over €10 billion in economic value and 116,100 jobs.
