Dutch Parliament Demands Cybersecurity Action and AI Infrastructure Development by 2026
The Dutch government is mandated to present a concrete cybersecurity plan by the end of 2026, following a significant decline in national digital security rankings. Additionally, formal support for the GPT-NL AI language model aims to enhance European innovation and reduce reliance on foreign tech giants.

The Tweede Kamer has mandated the government to deliver a detailed cybersecurity improvement plan by the end of 2026. This plan must address the modernization of outdated IT systems, as the Netherlands has fallen from 20th to 36th in the National Cyber Security Index.
Furthermore, the government will explore the establishment of a domestic AI 'gigafactory' and assess its computing needs for the next decade to stimulate local AI infrastructure development. The parliament also supports the GPT-NL initiative as a privacy-friendly alternative to U.S. tech solutions. A motion regarding the assessment of fundamental network risks will ensure evaluations are conducted before the next budget review, addressing existing vulnerabilities in national digital infrastructure.
