E7.3M Solar Water Supply Project Launched in Mtsambama Community
The Ekwendzeni Chiefdom has received a solar-powered water supply system worth E7.3 million, aimed at alleviating water scarcity for over a thousand residents. The project is designed for scalability, supporting up to 488 homesteads over the next 20 years, highlighting a community-driven approach to infrastructure development.

The Ministry of Economic Planning and Development has launched a solar-powered water supply scheme in the Ekwendzeni Chiefdom, valued at E7.3 million. This initiative will provide clean water to 270 homesteads, improving access for approximately 1,080 individuals.
The system, which utilizes solar energy, can pump about 144,000 litres of water daily into a 304,000-litre reservoir distributed through 93 standpipes. With a scalable design, it aims to support future growth, potentially serving 488 homesteads over 20 years.
Community involvement was significant, with residents contributing labor, materials, and funds, emphasizing local ownership. Long-term success will depend on effective stewardship and protection against vandalism.
