Eastern KY Signs Agreement for 100MW Off-Grid Data Center Power Station
A joint development agreement for a 100 megawatt off-grid power station in Eastern Kentucky aims to attract data centers. The project, involving Diversified Gas and Oil Corp. and Maverick Holdings, seeks to utilize local natural gas resources to meet increasing power demands in the data industry.

Eastern Kentucky's Appalachian Industrial Development Authority has entered a joint development agreement with Diversified Gas and Oil Corp. and Maverick Holdings to explore a 100 megawatt off-grid power station at the Gateway Industrial Park. This initiative targets potential users, including hyperscale data centers, amid rising energy demands and the need for on-site power generation to alleviate pressure on regional grids.
The plan is part of a broader trend where data centers are increasingly located in regions with favorable conditions and lower operational costs. The timeline for exploration of grants and marketing efforts spans 18 months, but the project's success hinges on local infrastructure capabilities and regulatory considerations.
The potential economic impact includes increased property values and local tax revenues, while concerns remain about the adequacy of the wastewater system to support large-scale operations. Similar projects have emerged in the area, indicating heightened interest in off-grid power solutions for industrial development.
