EasyJet and Rolls-Royce Complete Hydrogen Fuel Engine Testing Milestone
EasyJet and Rolls-Royce have successfully tested a modified Pearl 15 engine using 100% hydrogen, achieving full take-off power. This milestone is crucial for the aviation industry's decarbonization efforts and the development of low-emission propulsion technologies.

EasyJet and Rolls-Royce have completed significant ground-testing of a modified Rolls-Royce Pearl 15 engine, operating on 100% hydrogen at NASA's Stennis Space Center, Mississippi. This marks an important milestone in a four-year collaboration to explore hydrogen as an aviation fuel and support engineering advancements for future propulsion systems.
The test validated hydrogen combustion and fuel systems, demonstrating safe operation across a full flight cycle. The partnership has accelerated technology development, contributing to easyJet's net zero emissions target.
Previous tests include a 2022 run of a Rolls-Royce AE2100 engine on green hydrogen in the UK and a 2023 combustor test in Germany. The results could reshape future aviation fuel strategies, addressing environmental concerns.
