The artwork highlights the complexities of managing footwear waste, with over 70% made from reclaimed materials, and aims to inspire community action towards waste reduction and recycling.

At the 8isone Festival, ECO-RI unveiled an installation called 'The Footsteps We Leave Behind,' made from 100 kg of discarded footwear collected from Umiam Lake. This project, in partnership with DejaMe Creacions, emphasizes the environmental challenges posed by footwear waste, which is difficult to recycle due to its composite materials.
Over 70% of the installation is constructed from reclaimed materials, showcasing the potential of waste in art. The initiative aims to promote a circular economy and change public perceptions of waste, encouraging communities to view it as a resource rather than a problem. The artwork reflects the 100 kg of footwear waste generated in India every three minutes.
