ECOCE Achieves 64% Recycling Rate for PET in Mexico, Advances Circular Economy Efforts

CIRCULAR ECONOMY & RECYCLING

ECOCE, established 23 years ago, has enabled Mexico to achieve a 64% recycling rate for PET containers, surpassing the rates of Canada and the U.S. The organization plays a key role in shaping laws and public policy, working closely with SEMARNAT to strengthen Mexico's regulatory framework for waste management.

In 2019, ECOCE led the National Agreement for a New Plastics Economy, adapting international best practices to local industry commitments. The organization collaborates with state and federal authorities to transition to a circular economy, emphasizing responsible consumption and waste management.

ECOCE is now expanding its focus to flexible packaging, aiming to replicate PET's success by developing infrastructure and partnerships. The recent approval of the General Law on Circular Economy mandates sustainability across all sectors, requiring companies to manage their products responsibly. ECOCE promotes collaboration and education to support this transition and address the global trend of sustainable waste management.
