Ecojet Airlines Faces Liquidation as Funding Struggles Halt Zero-Emission Airline Plans

HYDROGEN

Ecojet Airlines, aimed at creating a zero-emission regional carrier, is facing liquidation following the appointment of provisional liquidators on January 14, 2025. The airline, launched in 2023 with ambitions to operate from Edinburgh, failed to secure necessary operational funding and pushed back its launch date multiple times.

Most staff were laid off in January 2025 due to funding issues. Ecojet's financial backer, Dale Vince, has paused further investment amid the company's struggles. The firm, previously known as Fresh Airlines, had agreements to acquire hydrogen-electric engines from ZeroAvia and gyroplanes from ARC Aerosystems but could not progress operationally. The liquidation process was initiated voluntarily by the company's board, as Ecojet has no material assets and aims to ensure employees receive their entitlements.
