Ecopetrol, Terpel, and Opex Launch Hydrogen Pilot Program for Freight Transport in Colombia
Ecopetrol, Terpel, and Opex have commenced a six-month pilot program in Colombia to evaluate hydrogen use in heavy-duty fuel transport. The trial involves a tanker truck operating on a blend of 10% hydrogen and 90% diesel, aiming to reduce CO₂, CO, and unburned hydrocarbon emissions by at least 50%.
This initiative takes place at the Cenit station in Tocancipá, where Opex has installed a hydrogen production system generating up to 4 kilograms per day. The hydrogen will supply Terpel stations in Duitama, Boyacá. The project seeks to create a cost-efficient logistics model in the Bogotá corridor and assess hydrogen's feasibility in heavy-duty vehicles, contributing to Colombia's clean energy transition.
