Ecuador Aims to Establish a Spaceport by 2030 with Private Sector Support

SPACE ECONOMY

Ecuador is pursuing the development of a spaceport by 2030, led by private entities including Leviathan Space Industries and Blackstar Orbital. The project aims to utilize the country's equatorial location for efficient rocket launches.

A proposed investment of up to $800 million includes vertical and horizontal launch operations. In 2023, Ecuador began establishing regulatory frameworks for commercial space flights and signed the Artemis Accords for international cooperation.

Meanwhile, the EU and Brazil are negotiating a political agreement to enhance joint investment in lithium and rare earths, responding to supply chain vulnerabilities. Brazil's mineral reserves and projects like Serra Verde and Sigma Lithium's operations are part of this strategy to diversify sources and ensure stable supply.
