Egat Invests 31 Billion Baht to Upgrade EEC Power Transmission System for Data Centers
The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (Egat) is investing 31 billion baht to enhance the power transmission system in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) to support data centre operations. The upgrade includes a 1.5 billion baht allocation for the Phan Thong substation, aiming to increase transfer capacity from 600 MW to 1,150 MW. The EEC is set to develop 16 new data centres by 2030, requiring an additional 3,600 MW of electricity. Thailand's electricity supply capacity is currently adequate, with peak consumption recorded at over 33,000 MW against a supply of 55,000 MW.

Egat is investing 31 billion baht to upgrade the power transmission system in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) to alleviate electricity supply bottlenecks for data centres. The Phan Thong substation will receive 1.5 billion baht for upgrades, increasing capacity from 600 MW to 1,150 MW.
Four data centres are under construction in Amata City Chon Buri, and 16 more are expected by 2030, demanding 3,600 MW. Thailand's electricity consumption peaked at over 33,000 MW last year with a supply capacity of 55,000 MW, providing over 30% reserve capacity.
