Egypt Cabinet Allocates Land for Green Hydrogen Production in Red Sea Governorate
The Egyptian Cabinet has approved the allocation of 251.73 acres in the Red Sea Governorate for green hydrogen production, including land for a marine pier and electricity transmission. This initiative supports Egypt's National Low-Carbon Hydrogen Strategy, which aims for an annual production of 5.8 million metric tons of green hydrogen and seeks to capture a 5-8% share of the global hydrogen market by 2040, attracting $60 billion in investments.

The Egyptian Cabinet approved the allocation of land in the Red Sea Governorate to support green hydrogen projects. A total of 251.73 acres will be used for a green hydrogen production plant, 50.17 acres for a marine pier, and 173.92 acres for an electricity transmission cable route.
This decision aligns with Egypt's National Low-Carbon Hydrogen Strategy, launched in August 2024, which aims for annual production of up to 5.8 million metric tons of green hydrogen and attracting $60 billion in investments. The government targets a 5-8% share of the global hydrogen market by 2040.
