Egypt Enhances SCZone Infrastructure for Global Trade and Investment
Egypt is advancing infrastructure in the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) to establish itself as a key global trade and investment hub. The country aims to boost national income through initiatives focused on logistics and industrial development, despite facing revenue challenges from geopolitical tensions.

Egypt is enhancing infrastructure in the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) to attract investments and improve its logistics capabilities. Key projects include a new 10 km channel at the southern end of the Suez Canal and the Ain Sokhna desalination plant, which are aimed at bolstering maritime navigation and trade.
The SCZone has secured investments, including a Turkish contract for a ready-made garments project that will generate 1,000 jobs. Despite setbacks from regional conflicts and impacts on canal revenues, Egypt's ports, such as Port Said, have demonstrated resilience, ranking 16th among the world's top container ports in 2023. By 2025, Egypt plans to enhance its global trade share and integrate sustainable practices.
