Egypt Targets Petrochemical Self-Sufficiency with New Projects
Egypt aims to enhance its petrochemical sector through ten strategic projects, increasing production by seven million tons and introducing 20 new products. This initiative is expected to replace $8 billion in imports, promoting industrial self-sufficiency and environmental sustainability.

Egypt plans to implement ten major petrochemical projects, aiming for an increase in production capacity by seven million tons annually. Current production is at 4.5 million tons, with significant projects including a 150,000-ton green ammonia plant and a facility for 120,000 tons of sustainable aviation fuel.
A sodium carbonate project is also set to produce 600,000 tons per year, while the Alamein Petrochemical Complex will include a silicon metal facility with a capacity of 45,000 tons. Additionally, a wood panel production project using rice straw will reduce carbon emissions by 360,000 tons annually. These initiatives align with a projected 30% growth in global petrochemical demand by 2030, positioning Egypt as a regional leader in sustainable industrial practices and self-sufficiency.
