EIB Loans €30 Million to PLD Space for MIURA 5 Development
The European Investment Bank (EIB) has provided a €30 million loan to PLD Space for the completion of the MIURA 5 rocket. This funding is pivotal for enhancing Europe's capabilities in deploying small satellites, critical for various applications including communications and defense.
The EIB has signed a €30 million venture debt loan agreement with PLD Space to support the final development stage of the MIURA 5 small satellite launcher. This marks the EIB's first direct investment in small launch vehicles, aimed at enhancing PLD Space's industrial and launch capabilities for commercial operations.
The MIURA 5 is a two-stage rocket designed for efficient satellite deployment and is expected to conduct its first test flight in 2026, with a capacity of up to 30 missions per year. This financing aligns with the EIB's goals of strengthening European technology and security through independent access to space. The loan is backed by InvestEU and contributes to the TechEU initiative, which aims to mobilize €250 billion in investments by 2027 for innovative European companies.
