EIB Provides €30M Loan to PLD Space for MIURA 5 Rocket Development
The European Investment Bank (EIB) has granted a €30 million venture debt loan to PLD Space, enhancing its total 2026 fundraising to €210 million. This funding supports the final development of the MIURA 5 rocket, designed for dedicated small satellite launches, which is a strategic move for strengthening Europe's autonomous access to space.
PLD Space has secured a €30 million venture debt loan from the European Investment Bank, marking a significant investment in the MIURA 5 rocket project. This brings PLD Space's total fundraising to €210 million for 2026, following a €180 million Series C round in March led by Mitsubishi Electric Corporation.
MIURA 5 is a two-stage rocket with a payload capacity of approximately 1,040 kilograms, aimed at simplifying small satellite launches and addressing scheduling risks. The inaugural test flight is set for 2026 at the Guiana Space Centre, with commercial operations expected by 2027, targeting over 30 launches annually by 2030. This investment aligns with EU strategies for secure and autonomous access to space, reinforcing the region's competitive position in the global launch market.
