Ekiti Lawmaker Advocates Public-Private Partnership for Water Sector Efficiency
Hon. Femi Akindele of Ekiti State House of Assembly discussed the potential of public-private partnerships (PPP) in the water sector at an event organized by the Ecumenical Water Network, emphasizing that free water provision is impractical. He suggested that urban areas should pay for water while it is subsidized for rural communities, citing a successful metered water project in Ado despite ongoing challenges from road construction. The event aimed to foster dialogue on water as a human right and engage various stakeholders.

Hon. Femi Akindele, representing Irepodun/Irepodun Constituency 1 in Ekiti State House of Assembly, highlighted the viability of public-private partnerships in the water sector during a stakeholders' awareness camp organized by the Ecumenical Water Network (EWN) in Ibadan, Oyo State.
He stated that complete free water provision is unfeasible and proposed that urban centers should pay for water, subsidizing rural communities. Akindele referenced a successful metered water project in Ado, noting that supply issues arose from road construction damaging pipes. The awareness camp aimed to enhance collaboration on water rights and service delivery.
