EKPC Appeals Ruling for Power Line Project on Berea College Land
East Kentucky Power Cooperative (EKPC) is appealing a court decision that blocked its use of eminent domain for a transmission line project affecting Berea College property. The project aims to support reliable electric service for over 4,100 homes and businesses in southeastern Madison County.

East Kentucky Power Cooperative (EKPC) is pursuing an appeal following a Madison Circuit Court's ruling that denied its request to use eminent domain for an electric transmission line across Berea College property. The Three Links to Big Hill project is essential for alleviating constraints in the area, where a single substation currently services over 4,100 households and businesses.
The proposed line will cross 15.6 acres of college land and is expected to support a new substation that will serve approximately 1,500 meters. EKPC is acquiring easements from other property owners and plans to use methods that minimize environmental impact. The case highlights the challenges of balancing infrastructure development with local property rights.
