ELCEN Selects Three Consortia for €427 Million Power Plant Project
The Electrocentrale București has shortlisted three consortia for a €427 million modernization project at CET București Sud. This investment is part of a broader €5 billion program aimed at enhancing the energy infrastructure in the capital, with operational launch expected by July 2030.

Electrocentrale București has selected three consortia from an initial six candidates for the competitive dialogue stage concerning the CET București Sud project, valued at approximately 3.6 billion lei. The project will produce 275 MW of electricity and 214 MW of thermal energy, utilizing natural gas and designed to be hydrogen-ready.
ELCEN plans to sign the EPC contract in October 2026, with operational launch scheduled for July 2030. The funding structure includes support from the Modernization Fund and co-financing negotiations with international financial institutions. Other projects in the ELCEN program include CET Grozăvești and CET Progresu, further solidifying the importance of CET București Sud within the overall investment strategy.
