The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality's electrification project in McCarthy settlement is nearing completion, signaling improved electricity access for residents. With nearly R7 million allocated for ongoing and future phases, the project aims to enhance basic service delivery in the area.

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality is nearing completion of Phase 1 of the electrification project in the McCarthy informal settlement. This phase includes the installation of electricity poles, followed by the stringing of cables and the introduction of a mini substation to enhance power supply.
Funding of R7 million has been secured for the project across the next two financial years. Councillor Ziyanda Mnqokoyi confirmed the mini substation purchase, indicating a commitment to complete the second phase involving additional infrastructure. This initiative is part of a larger strategy to improve essential services in Nelson Mandela Bay, which may lead to increased economic activity and investment in the area.
