Elemental Trucks Develops Canada's First 63.5-Tonne Hydrogen Fuel Cell Truck for Heavy-Haul Market
Elemental Trucks has completed the development of Canada’s first 63.5-tonne hydrogen fuel-cell-electric truck, enabling entry into the zero-emission heavy-haul market. The project, supported by the Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network, involves a nearly $2.5 million investment and aims to address the challenges of electrifying heavy weights with hydrogen fuel cells. The truck is designed for a range of up to 800 km and is set for commercial production with initial deployments planned in regions with hydrogen refueling infrastructure.

Elemental Trucks has developed Canada's first commercially available 63.5-tonne hydrogen fuel-cell-electric truck, aimed at the heavy-haul, long-distance zero-emission market. The Ontario-built prototype, part of a nearly $2.5 million project initiated in March 2024, was developed with support from the Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network and in partnership with HTEC.
The truck features a hydrogen-electric chassis capable of 800 km range and 700-bar fueling, targeting long-haul applications. Validation and testing have been completed in Ontario, with commercial production and initial deployments planned in regions with hydrogen refueling infrastructure.
