Elk Grove Village has extended the construction deadline for Nexstar Media Group's data center redevelopment at the WGN radio transmitter site to September 30, 2027, due to ongoing power issues. Nexstar's initial plans for the site, acquired in 2019, included a three-building data center campus and an electrical substation on 35 acres of a 102-acre property.

The revised plan now envisions four data center buildings without the need to replace the old radio towers. A redevelopment agreement signed in July 2023 outlined a phased construction schedule, but the initial deadline has passed. To address power constraints, the village plans to sell a 1.2-acre parcel to Commonwealth Edison for $3.6 million, which is part of a larger effort to establish the necessary infrastructure for the data center campus.
