Elmet Technologies Secures US Patent for Additive Manufacturing Process
Elmet Technologies has been awarded US Patent No. 12,571,080, enhancing its portfolio in additive manufacturing and powder metallurgy. The patented process utilizes advanced spray drying and plasma densification to create high-purity, flowable composite powders for aerospace and defense applications.

Elmet Technologies received US Patent No. 12,571,080 for the 'Fabrication of Metallic Parts by Additive Manufacturing,' its sixth patent in this domain. The patented process produces three-dimensional metallic objects using a dry powder bed of spherical composite particles, allowing for binder-jet printing and directed energy deposition.
The composite powders exhibit Hall flow rates of 1-25 s/50 g, ensuring consistent processing. Parts fabricated meet ASTM B777 Class 1 specifications for tungsten heavy alloys, crucial for aerospace and industrial applications. The technology addresses challenges in metal additive manufacturing by producing chemically uniform refractory metal powders that maintain their properties during processing, potentially impacting production capabilities in demanding environments.
