Elon Musk's xAI Reports $7.8 Billion Expenditure and Plans $20 Billion Data Center in Mississippi

DATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTURE

Elon Musk's AI startup xAI has spent $7.8 billion from January to September 2025, with a net loss of $1.46 billion in Q3 alone, following a $1 billion loss in Q1. Revenue has grown to $107 million but remains small compared to expenditures.

Funds are directed towards massive data centers, thousands of GPUs, and top AI researchers, aiming to develop Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). xAI plans a $20 billion investment in a new data center in Mississippi, which will be part of its vision for the world's largest supercomputer. Investors, including Nvidia and Qatar's sovereign wealth fund, have recently contributed an additional $20 billion, viewing the $1 billion monthly expenditure as necessary for maintaining a competitive edge in AI. Despite regulatory challenges facing Musk's AI chatbot Grok, the company continues to invest heavily, reflecting Musk's history of funding ventures during critical periods.
