Emasa, Malaga's municipal water company, has partnered with Suez Smart Environmental Solutions to tackle odour issues from the Guadalhorce sewage treatment plant using AI. The 181,000-euro contract, lasting five years, includes four months of technological support.
The project aims to monitor and predict pollution levels, addressing complaints about the 'rotten egg' smell affecting local areas. The plant treats 165,000 cubic metres of wastewater daily and will install sensors for hydrogen sulphide, ammonia, and methane, alongside weather stations. The initiative also plans to apply the model to other problematic treatment plants.
