Emilia Doda Creates Public Map of Planned Data Centers in Pennsylvania
Emilia Doda has created a public map to track planned data centers in Pennsylvania, motivated by a proposal near her childhood home. A physics/computer science graduate from USC, she aims to provide an open-sourced tool for communities to understand local developments, despite concerns about being perceived as an authority on data centers. Anthony Pipa from the Brookings Institution highlighted the need for significant investment in data centers, comparing it to energy extraction in the region.

Emilia Doda has developed a public map to track planned data centers in Pennsylvania after learning about a proposal near her childhood home. Doda, a physics/computer science graduate from the University of Southern California, initiated this project while residing in Silicon Valley, aiming to make it open-sourced for broader use.
She believes such tools are valuable for communities to understand local developments. Although she has not previously publicized her role, Doda expressed concerns about being seen as an authority on data centers, particularly in relation to AI technology. While her mapping did not show overlaps with former coal mines, Anthony Pipa from the Brookings Institution emphasized the need for significant investment in data centers, drawing parallels to energy extraction in the region.
