EMRTAI Launches Technology Assessment Initiative for Critical Mineral Recovery
The Environmental Monitoring and Remediation Technology Assessment Initiative (EMRTAI) is now accepting applications for technology assessments focused on recovering critical minerals from legacy mining sites. This initiative, funded by the EPA, aims to enhance domestic supply chains while addressing environmental remediation needs.

The EMRTAI is inviting applications for technology assessments targeting critical mineral recovery from Superfund sites. Funded by the Environmental Protection Agency, the initiative will allow selected applicants to conduct technology demonstrations using EPA-approved standards.
Applications are open until May 8, with demonstrations planned for spring and fall 2026. Each demonstration can receive funding exceeding $150,000, covering all related costs. The program addresses both the urgent demand for critical minerals essential for technologies and national security, and the opportunity to recover these resources from mine waste. The initiative aims to convert environmental liabilities into valuable assets, supporting U.S. supply chains and remediation efforts.
