EMSTEEL's GCEO Discusses Sustainable Steel Production and Decarbonization Efforts in UAE
EMSTEEL aims for significant reductions in carbon emissions in steel and cement production by 2030, targeting a 40% decrease in steel and 30% in cement from a 2019 baseline. The company uses a natural gas-based production route and has integrated carbon capture technology. EMSTEEL became the first MENA steelmaker to achieve ResponsibleSteel certification and is focusing on circular economy initiatives, including reusing steel slag in cement production. The company collaborates with ADNOC and Masdar on hydrogen technologies and aims to align with the UAE's Net Zero 2050 goals.

EMSTEEL targets a 40% reduction in steel emissions and 30% in cement by 2030, using a natural gas-based DRI-EAF production route that emits 0.67 tonnes of CO₂ per tonne of steel in 2024. The company integrates carbon capture and has achieved ResponsibleSteel certification.
EMSTEEL collaborates with ADNOC on carbon capture and Masdar on green hydrogen steelmaking, supplying low-carbon rebar to Abu Dhabi's first net-zero mosque. Circularity is prioritized by reusing steelmaking slag in cement production. EMSTEEL aligns with the UAE's Net Zero 2050 vision, enhancing local procurement and fostering industrial resilience.
