Engagement on Unused IDA Site in Fermoy After 24 Years
The IDA's 21-acre site in Fermoy has been dormant for nearly 24 years, prompting discussions for future investment. Local leaders are advocating for foreign direct investment to revitalize the area.

The Taoiseach will engage with the IDA regarding the future of a 21-acre site in Fermoy, which has remained unoccupied for almost 24 years. Originally the Fitzgerald Camp army barracks, this serviced site has not attracted any tenants since its transfer from the Department of Defence to the IDA.
The site, located on the Dublin Road, offers essential infrastructure such as water and power, along with strategic access to the Cork-Dublin motorway. Local TD Noel McCarthy emphasized the disappointment felt by the community due to the lack of interest in the site, which is seen as suitable for investment. The possibility of attracting foreign direct investment could significantly benefit the local economy, although a focus on indigenous enterprises might limit such prospects.
