Department of Environmental Quality on March 2. Residents have noted unpleasant odors and visible waste in effluent samples. The contamination poses a risk to recreational activities near Saxapahaw, particularly as local parks and businesses rely on river access. The group is calling for a DEQ investigation into treatment failures and for the revision of the plant's NPDES permit to include stricter monitoring protocols.
