DATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTURE

EPRI's DCFlex initiative has expanded to nine demonstration sites across the U.S. and Europe, announced at DTECH on February 2, 2026. This expansion includes six new sites added to the previously announced three in Arizona, North Carolina, and France.

Launched in October 2024, the initiative aims to leverage data centers for greater grid reliability and flexibility, with a focus on AI-driven energy solutions. The new sites include locations in Chicago, Dallas, Ashburn, Manassas, and London, testing various strategies for load flexibility and renewable energy integration.

Collaborators in the initiative include major companies like Google, NVIDIA, and Constellation Energy. EPRI's analysis predicts data centers could account for up to 9% of U.S. electricity consumption by 2030.
