EPS to Expand Capacity and Rehabilitate Potpec Hydropower Plant with WBIF Support
Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) is set to rehabilitate the Potpec Hydropower Plant, including the reconstruction of three existing units and the addition of a new 13 MW unit, with support from a EUR 15.24 million grant from the Western Balkans Investment Framework. The project aims to enhance operational efficiency, extend the lifespan of the units, and increase annual electricity generation from 213 GWh to 236.7 GWh. Environmental approval has been secured, allowing the project to proceed under EIB procurement guidelines, promoting climate action and sustainability.

Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) is undertaking a project for the reconstruction of three existing units and the construction of a new 13 MW unit at Potpec Hydropower Plant (HPP) under a Framework Loan for Green Financing. The rehabilitation aims to extend the operational lifetime, reduce maintenance costs, and increase efficiency of the existing units, while the new unit will offset production losses during the rehabilitation and utilize overflowing water.
Average annual electricity generation is expected to rise from 213 GWh to 236.7 GWh. The project will receive a grant of up to EUR 15.24 million from the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF). Environmental consent was re-issued by the Ministry of Environmental Protection in July 2024, confirming no new EIA is required. The project will follow EIB procurement guidelines and contribute to climate action and sustainability.
