EQONIC Develops Cost-Effective Battery Technology Reducing Costs by 70% Compared to Lithium Batteries

ENERGY STORAGE

EQONIC, a UK-based battery technology company, has developed a new battery technology that could significantly lower energy storage costs by 70% compared to traditional lithium batteries. The battery utilizes abundant materials, avoiding sodium, lithium, and rare-earth metals, which mitigates environmental impacts associated with mining.

Designed for safety, all materials are non-flammable and fully recyclable, addressing concerns related to battery disposal and health issues from pollution. The target manufacturing cost is £50 ($67) per kilowatt-hour, approximately half the current industry average.

EQONIC plans to license its technology and form partnerships instead of building its own factory, although the commercial launch timeline remains uncertain. This innovation marks a crucial step toward sustainable battery manufacturing.
