Equinix Launches SV12x Data Center in San Jose, California, in Partnership with PG&E

DATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTURE

Equinix has launched its SV12x data center in San Jose, California, marking the first facility powered under a partnership with the city and PG&E. The collaboration, established last year, aims to ensure reliable power delivery for data centers, enhancing infrastructure amid discussions of a municipal utility.

The 20MW, 82,000 sq ft facility increases the campus's total capacity to 40MW. PG&E upgraded its Santa Teresa substation to support the new facility, with costs covered by Equinix. The SV12x is the first California data center under Equinix's xScale brand, which focuses on hyperscale development. Equinix has partnered with GIC since 2019 for xScale facilities, with plans for a $600 million facility in Silicon Valley announced in April 2024, alongside additional projects across the US with GIC and CPP.
