ERDC Dedicates Supercomputer 'Barfoot' in Honor of Medal of Honor Recipient Col. Van T. Barfoot

The U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) dedicated its new supercomputer, named 'Barfoot', on January 22 in honor of Col. Van T.
Barfoot, a Mississippi native and Medal of Honor recipient. The supercomputer features 212,736 AMD compute cores and 437,760 terabytes of memory, capable of performing over nine quadrillion calculations per second.
Barfoot's heroic actions during World War II included neutralizing multiple enemy threats, resulting in the capture of 17 soldiers and the disabling of a German tank. He is the fourth Medal of Honor recipient from Mississippi after whom ERDC has named a supercomputer, following Cpl. William
