ESB Networks to Invest €15M in Athlone Infrastructure Upgrade
ESB Networks plans a €15 million investment in Athlone, focusing on resilience and infrastructure enhancements by 2030. This upgrade aims to support local housing and economic growth while addressing existing network issues.

ESB Networks will invest €15 million in a new high-voltage 110kV station in Athlone, projected for completion by 2030. This initiative aligns with local growth needs and aims to enhance infrastructure resilience, particularly in the Coosan area, where existing systems will transition from single-phase to three-phase by 2026.
Additionally, a multi-million euro investment will boost the current Athlone high-voltage substation's capacity by 50% this year. The upgrade includes automated technologies to improve reliability during faults and enhanced tree-cutting programs. Local residents will receive advance notice of any disruptions during the summer works.
